Arc provides employment, vocational preparation, residential, paratransit, and other specialized training programs to over 1,000 people per month — funded by the San Diego Regional Center, the California Department of Rehabilitation, AbilityOne-sponsored federal contracts, other contracts, businesses, and individuals.
Our Philosophy
Arc’s approach is grounded in normalization — recognizing individual capabilities rather than focusing on limitations. Rather than allowing disability to define a person, Arc separates the individual from their diagnosis to help unlock their potential.
From a grassroots idea to a Valley institution
What began with a group of concerned parents in 1963 has grown into one of the Imperial Valley’s largest employers and service providers for people with developmental disabilities.
Concerned parents in the Imperial Valley come together as a grassroots initiative to address the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
The group formally incorporates as the Imperial Valley Association for the Retarded, launching services in 1974 with 20 consumers.
Renamed the Association for Retarded Citizens – Imperial Valley. Arc Industries earns accreditation and secures a major contract with Naval Air Facility El Centro.
A consumer-driven initiative leads to the name Arc Imperial Valley — reflecting how individuals themselves wanted to be served.
Arc now serves more than 1,500 people, operating group homes, an Adult Development Center, work programs, transportation, a commercial kitchen, and a recycling program.
Arc expands into social enterprise with Mozzarelli Pizza and Gelato (2014), acquires the StrikeZone Bowling Center (2017), and opens a second Mozzarelli location (2018).
